National Day in the UAE

My School Celebration

National day is the day that the United Arab Emirates was formed. National day is celebrated on the 2nd of December, but we celebrated it on 24th of November at my school. The day started with assembly. We had to stand for a very long time. We stood up just to wait for the kindergarten students. After assembly grades 3-9 watched a slide show that Mrs. Fatima made. It showed places for tourist to go and types of transposition in the UAE. Grade 1-2 students had to stamp their fingerprints on a big piece of paper. After it looked like the UAE flag. After all that we had to watch performances. The only problem was that all the performances were in Arabic but not all of us speak Arabic or understand Arabic. Then we all ate. Most of the food was dessert, which was delicious. After we ate we went home. I liked the celebration.

The NFL

The National Football League

The NFL is an American football league. In the U.S.A. it is really popular. Usually people in the U.S.A. watch a football game every Sunday or Monday night.

Teams

There are 32 teams in the NFL. All the teams are in the U.S.A. Lots of the teams are in big cities, like New York, New Orleans, Chicago, and Seattle. There are nicknames for each team. For example, the nickname for New Orleans is the Saints.

The Game

Football is played on a field a 100 yards long. 22 players play on the field at once, 11 players on offense and 11 players on defense. The game is played for 15 minutes per quarter. There are 4 quarters.

Deciding the Winner

In the regular season teams play 16 games each. The best 12 teams play in the playoffs. The best two teams in the playoffs play each other in the Super Bowl. The winner is the NFL champion.

Birthday Tradition

Do you have a birthday tradition? I have a birthday tradition of making my own cake instead of buying one. The day before we bake the cake and the next day we bring the cake to the party.

The night before the party we make and decorate the cake. First, we buy decorations, cake mix, and icing. Second, we mix and bake the cake. Finally, we decorate the cake. We put the icing, M&Ms, Oreos, toys, and candles on the cake. Sometimes we have a theme, like cars, baseball, or aliens.

The next day we bring the cake to the party. We have to be careful to protect the cake. We wrap it with foil. We put toothpicks under the foil so the cake’s design will not be destroyed. Also when we are driving we have to be careful. Usually my mom holds my cake in the car. When we get to the party we sing “Happy Birthday.” After we sing “Happy Birthday” we eat the cake.

I like to make my birthday cake because it is fun and we can choose the themes that stores would not have. If it were my birthday, I would have a Star Wars cake. I would put black and yellow icing, and sprinkle a little sugar powder on the cake. I would use the black icing to make space and I would use the yellow to write “Star Wars.” I would use the sugar powder to make a hundred thousand stars. I think it would look great. I think you should try to make a cake instead of buying one.

The Crab Boil

One afternoon my Uncle Mark and I went to Kenny’s Seafood to pick up live crabs. When we were coming home our truck broke down. We waited and waited and waited for my Uncle Ed to tug us home. When we got home we boiled the crabs. We put spices like red pepper, salt, lemon, onion, and garlic in a big pot. Then we let it boil. When it was boiling we put the live crabs in. Then we put corn, potatoes, sausage, and mushrooms in the pot. After they were done we took them out and we ate them. My family and friends came. We ate 2 hampers of crabs, which is about 100 crabs. I like to eat the claws. I like the claws because it is easy to crack the shell and take the meat out and eat it. The crabs were spicy and delicious. I enjoyed eating the crabs and learning how to cook them.

Fort Pike

We went to Fort Pike. Fort Pike is a fort in Louisiana. I got to see cannons and cannon balls. The fort is small. A long time ago there was a war between America and the British Empire, the War of 1812. After the war America built Fort Pike to protect New Orleans from the British. The British didn’t attack again, but Fort Pike was used in three other wars, the Mexican war, the Civil war, and the Seminole Wars.

Alligator and Wasp Contrast

If you want to know the differences between alligators and wasps read this. Alligators have an endoskeleton; on the other hand wasps have an exoskeleton. Wasps can fly, while alligators can’t. Alligators can go in the water, but wasps can’t. Moreover alligators are reptiles while wasps are insects. Wasps live in hives, but alligators live in rivers and swamps. Finally wasps are small, but alligators are large. As you see there are a lot of differences.

School Field Trip

Saturday I went to Sharjah with my classmates. We went to Sahara Centre. At the Sahara Centre we went to Adventure Land. Adventure Land is an arcade. My favorite ride at Adventure Land is the ride that goes in circles and that makes you go up side down. I call it the twister. I also went to a science and archeology museum.

Korean Drums

Yesterday I saw a Korean drum dance. It was a long performance, but it was fun. It was at the U.A.E. University where dad teaches. The drum group has three girls and two boys. It was a very nice performance. Did you know that the people carrying the drums were dancing? They were swinging the ribbon on their hat in circles.

Cairo Rugby Tour

Before

We are going to Cairo on Thursday for a rugby tournament. While we are in Cairo, we are going to see the pyramids. There are two kinds of pyramids, the straight-sided pyramid and the step pyramid. We are going to see the Great Pyramid at Giza, a straight-sided pyramid. I hope we see the Sphinx.

Did you know that Lower Egypt is actually in the north? Cairo is in Lower Egypt.

After

We went to Egypt. In Egypt, my brother and I played in a rugby tournament. At the rugby tournament my team and I won first, but my brother’s team came in second. Do you want to know what I got for winning? I got a T-shirt, a medal, and a pyramid, and I will get a picture for the wall.

On the next day we saw the Pyramids of Giza. We even got to see the Sphinx. Be careful there are a lot of beggars. The beggars trick you. They trick you by asking “Can I take the picture?” and you let them and they ask for money.

We took so many planes and buses. We rode five buses and two planes. My brother likes to ride planes just to get the food, but I just like to relax and watch TV, if they have TV’s.

Traveling In The Philippines

Tuesday January 20

We went to Fort Santiago. Fort Santiago is in Manila. There were so many dungeons. The Japanese put the Filipinos and the Americans in the dungeons. At Fort Santiago, we saw Rizal’s furniture and jail cell. Rizal is a Filipino hero who the Spanish shot. Rizal was born on the 19th of June 1861. He wrote a book called Noli Me Tangere and the Spanish got angry.

Thursday January 22

I saw a movie called Bedtime Stories. In Bedtime Stories there was a man that figured out that when the kids tell the story it would come true. It was funny. The guinea pig’s eyes were so big.

Sunday January 25

We visited my great grandparents. They live in Pasig in Manila. I have only one living great grandpa. My grandpa and me are the same height. I am taller than my great grandma. Their house was small like it was one room. My grandpa was a carpenter a long time ago. He built the second floor of his house by himself. I call my grandparents Nanay and Tatay, which means mother and father.

Monday January 26

On Chinese New Year we went to Calamba, Laguna. I sang on my great uncle’s karaoke and I got four perfect scores. It is the year of the ox.

Wednesday January 28

We had a blessing at my parent’s office. A blessing is to bless every one to give them good luck at their work. The priest came and splashed holy water in each corner. I had to hold a candle and wax burned my hand. At the blessing my mom threw so many 5 peso coins and I got 255 pesos.

Thursday January 29

I watched a movie called Beverly Hills Chihuahua. In Beverly Hills Chihuahua there was a rich dog. She has a friend that used to be a police dog. He lost his job because he lost his scent. It was very funny. For example a dog said " I never brushed my teeth before it tastes minty. I call it meaty."

Friday January 30

I went to Pixie Forest at the Festival Mall in Alabang. Pixie Forest is an arcade. I played so many games and rode two rides. I played a game called Spin-N-Win and I won199 tickets. My brother and I rode the Elfin Waves. The Elfin Waves is a ride. You sit in a log and go up and down very fast. We got a little wet.

Kyle Picking Olives

This painting’s title is “Women Picking Olives.” Vincent Van Gogh painted it. The trees look very scary. The trees look scary because the branches are curly. When the wind blows the trees make a swishing sound. There are so many dull colors in this picture. The dark colors make the picture scary. For example, the ground is grayish and the sky is dark pink. I chose this picture because I like the dull colors.

I imagined that I was one of the ladies in the olive grove. I picked an olive. The olive felt so soft and it was easy to squeeze. The olive tasted bitter. The olive grove smelled like cotton candy perfume.

The Global Village in Dubai

What is the Global Village?

The Global Village is in Dubai. The Global Village is like a giant mall but it is outside. Also, it is a place that people go to learn about different countries like China, Japan, and India.

Why do people go to the Global Village?

People go to the Global Village
1. To hang out with their family.
2. To learn about different countries.
3. To shop for stuff that you can’t find in the mall.
4. To just have fun with their family.
5. To see the shows from different countries.
6. To go on the rides like the Haunted House.
7. To look around.
8. To eat different food from different countries.

What did we do on our trip to the Global Village?

We ate at the Global Village. We ate Saudi food. It was yummy.

We had fun at the Global Village. My brother and I went on a ride called the Haunted House. It was very scary. One of the scary things was a mummy that was in a cage on the roof. I rode my rollerblades all over the Global Village.

We shopped at the Global Village. In Thailand, I bought a flute and my brother bought a toy. In Kenya, my mom bought a gift for my cousin Jenna and my dad bought some coffee.

We saw five shows at the Global Village. We saw a Ukrainian dance, Chinese girls doing hula-hoop in a show, U.A.E. men dancing & singing, Kenyan musicians, and American water stunts. My favorite show was the water stunts. One of the cool things was a man on fire riding a jet ski.
